Forest Oaks Country Club
Greensboro,NC 27406
On Saturday, June 2, 2018, the International Civil Rights
Center & Museum will host a golfing benefit honoring the legacy of the late
Dr. George C. Simkins, Jr., an ardent activist for civil rights. Simkins, who was a dentist, and five other
African Americans defied the segregationist practices of the 1950s by playing
at the “whites only” Gillespie Park Golf Course, in Greensboro, N.C. Their
courageous stance and subsequent legal battles in the quest for justice and
equal access provided a valuable legacy for every freedom-loving North
Carolinian.
The George C. Simkins Jr. Memorial Golf Classic is slated
for Saturday at the Forest Oaks Golf Course.
Registration will open at 7:30 a.m., with a putting contest for those
needing to warm up, followed by shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. This fundraising event
includes an awards ceremony following lunch at the event. We would welcome you and your team, or other
representatives from your company, to join us on the golf course in a day of
enjoyment at a beautiful place.
The attached brochure provides more information about our
tournament and its namesake, Dr. Simkins.
The flyer also details levels of sponsorship from $500 to $7,500
(Green/Tee, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Premier) and the recognition
opportunities for each. This event is a
time for you to join neighbors and friends for a great game of golf, while
honoring a legend who helped transform our community, and helping the
all-volunteer Golf Committee raise funds to support the Civil Rights
Museum — with a focus on its operations
and educational programs.
Please sign up today.
We look forward to your participation.
Should you have a need for additional information, please
